14k Gold Value per Gram: How to Estimate Raw Gold Content
Fourteen-karat gold is approximately 58.33% pure. A raw value-per-gram estimate converts the gold price from troy ounces to grams and then applies the 14/24 purity factor.
14k gold purity
Karat measures gold parts out of 24. The purity calculation is 14 รท 24 = 0.5833, or about 58.33%.
Marks such as 583 or 585 are commonly associated with approximately 14k purity, but stamps do not replace testing.
14k gold value per gram formula
First divide a chosen gold price per troy ounce by 31.1034768 to get pure-gold value per gram. Then multiply by 14/24.
For an item, multiply that 14k per-gram estimate by the gold-alloy weight after excluding stones and non-gold parts where possible.
Why a buyer offer can be lower
A raw metal estimate does not include assay/testing, refining loss, stones, clasps, solder, plating, transaction cost, or buyer margin.
Jewelry can also have design, brand, antique, or resale value that differs from melt.
